Starting TreatmentEverybody's teeth are different. For this reason, no two Orthodontic cases are alike, and each patient needs a unique course of treatment.

A specialist can identify a problem developing at 8 or 9 years of age and since the timing of treatment is important, an early examination is well worthwhile.

Certain conditions are best dealt with at an early age, when treatment is much easier and usually quicker. Intercepting problems at this stage prevents them becoming more complicated and difficult to treat later on. Treatment generally begins when most of the permanent teeth have come through. There is no age limit so adults can also have treatment.

All patients that begin treatment with us will receive an information pack about Orthodontics and our Practice.

Private or NHS?

We welcome patients privately and under the NHS. Note that treatment under the NHS is only available to patients under the age of 18. Many families choose private treatment for their child for a variety of reasons, which can be discussed with the Orthodontist.

Starting Treatment

At the first appointment, it is necessary to obtain records of the patient's mouth and teeth. Usually we take X-Rays and make Impressions, though the latter may take place at a later date.

Duration of Treatment

Treatment lengths vary. Treatment with fixed braces often takes between 18 months and two years. Although some less involved cases can take far less time. Adjustments to appliances are typically made at 4 to 6 week intervals.
