Fast Track Treatment
AcceleDent, is a new device (worn for 20 minutes daily) used with fixed or aligners to speed up the movement of the teeth by 38-50%. Acceledent is complementary to all fixed appliances and aligners and uses a gentle pulsing force to increase the rate of alveolar bone remodeling.
Damon System Braces are
Damon
Damon appliances (Damon Q and Clear) are a self ligating system i.e. they do not use ligatures to tie the aligning wires in place. Consequently treatments are faster with fewer appointments. Also the length between appointments can be increased so resulting in more efficient and shorter treatment times.
Clarity™ SL Self-Ligating Braces
Metal Braces with Ligatures
Smart Clip and Clarity
Smart Clip are also self ligating and can be offered in the clear ceramic Clarity variation. Clarity brackets are the ceramic tooth colored brackets used as an alternative to the metal variety. The advantage of using those is that they will not stain or discolor and will look the same throughout the treatment. These ceramic braces are a very popular choice as an alternative to the metal braces.
Clarity™ Braces
Metal Braces
Ceramic
Ceramic braces are a popular alternative to metal braces. They are tooth colored and stain free and remain the same throughout the treatment. As a result they are less noticeable for the discerning adult patient.
Lingual
These are braces fitted to the inside of the upper or lower front teeth. In view of their position they will cause initially more discomfort and soreness but eventually the benefits outweigh their difficulties. They are useful for the less severe or in relapse cases.
Incognito
Are custom made lingual appliances and soon Richmond Hill Practice will be in a position to offer this system. They are the most expensive system at present.
Removable Appliances
Clearstep, Invisalign, and Clear Aligners
These are a series of clear aligners that are made of strong, clear plastic material that fit over the teeth and gradually reposition the teeth. The advantages being almost invisible, removable for eating (specially at occasions such as social events) and comfortable.
AcceleDent
Acceledent is a new device (worn for 20 minutes daily) used with fixed aligners to speed up the movement of the teeth by 38 - 50%. Acceledent is complementary to all fixed appliances and aligners and uses a gentle pulsing force to increase the rate of alveolar bone remodelling.
Inman Aligner or Oralign
These are removable appliances designed to help to align the front teeth. When space is created, it can be quicker in tooth movements than the clear aligners. The disadvantage for the Inman Aligner is it's bulkiness but also can be removed and quite effective if worn for sufficient duration.
Payments
Payments are spread out over the treatment period. The initial payment is made on fitting the appliance and at three monthly intervals subsequently. Depending upon the complexity and the duration of the treatment the total cost starts from as little as £950 for the whole treatment including all appliances, adjustments and supervision of the retainers for 12 months after treatment with the fixed appliances.
NHS Treatments
Fixed Appliances
These are the commonest brace fitted. The brackets are bonded to the teeth usually in two appointments. Super-elastic wires are fitted on the second appointment and over the treatment time of 15-18 months, on average, the teeth are corrected. Colored elastics can be used to ligate the wires into the fixed braces making the wearing of the braces more fun and acceptable.
Removable
Removable braces have an acrylic (plastic) palate with springs to move teeth into their desired position. They are secure in position and worn usually day and night and removed for cleaning and during certain sports. They are extremely useful in early treatments when the young patient still has some deciduous (baby) teeth present.
Functional Appliances
Functional appliances are used to correct bite problems and are very good at correcting prominent teeth. They are most effective in the growing patient and work by holding the lower jaw forward and pulling the upper jaw back and in time the teeth adapt and grow into a more favorable position. They can have a great effect on the profile and are the most efficient appliance for correcting the molar relationship.
Retainers
Retainers are fitted once the fixed appliances are taken off. They help to hold the teeth in their new position and let them stabilise. After full time wear for a period three months, removable retainers are worn at night time. Failure to wear retainers leads to relapse of the treatment and retreatment would be expensive and not covered on the NHS.
